SHELBY L. SCOTT

A little about me:
I became part of the Calhoun County community when I attended Jacksonville State University back in 2011. After I graduated from JSU, I earned an academic scholarship to the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. While in law school, I jumped headfirst into contentious family law cases, and I learned from one of the best family law firms in Birmingham.
In 2018, I graduated law school, passed the bar exam, and began my legal career at a well-respected law firm here in Oxford. There, I was able to help over 175 clients in just three years and added criminal defense to my areas of legal practice.
Now, I’m a lawyer out on my own, helping good people like you protect what matters most. Maybe it’s your freedom, maybe it’s your children, maybe it’s the business you’ve worked your entire life to build - whatever it is, I promise to stand with you and fight like hell to help you protect it.
I am very proud of the work that I’ve done for my clients so far, but it pales in comparison to the pride I feel for my family. I’m married to a Sergeant in the Alabama National Guard, and we live in Jacksonville with our two daughters (5 & 7) and two rescue dogs (also 5 & 7).
In my spare time, you can find me binge watching Law and Order: SVU (I know, I know), hiking at Cheaha State Park, and keeping it 100 on our firm’s Facebook page.

KIRSTYN A. COTTON

Hello, there! I am a Calhoun County native, specifically from Saks, AL. I went to Faith Christian School in Anniston, where I played all of the sports and did all of the things (I mean all of them).
After graduating high school in 2014, I attended Jacksonville State University. During my time there I joined several organizations and honor societies, made lifelong friends, and (finally) decided on a major. I graduated from JSU in 2018 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management and started my professional career as a Staffing Recruiter shortly after.
I enjoyed my time spent in the recruiting world and really enjoyed helping people develop their skills and find fulfilling careers. However, not too long ago I felt called to do something else and spent some time thinking about my future career options. I had heavily looked into becoming a paralegal but was back and forth between making the jump ( I mean who wants to go BACK to school). And then entered Shelby! She decided to give me a chance and here I am (ever so grateful)! I have been with the firm since its inception in 2021.
When not at work, you can find me curled up reading a good book (or several) with Vixen and Berkeley (cat and German Shepherd, respectively) or attempting DIY projects at home that I saw on Pinterest.
